On the occasion of the presentation on the situation in Germany by Irene Khan, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to freedom of expression, on June 17, 2026, Dr. Hannah Franzki published an article on the topic of academic freedom. Published in German on the Verfassungsblog under the title “Forschung unter Vorbehalt” ("Research under Reservation"), the article examines the case of visiting professor Ghassan Hage’s immediate dismissal by the Max Planck Society due to allegations of antisemitism in November 2022 and its implications for academic freedom.
