Hannah Franzki and Mariam Salehi appeared in the newest episode of the Völkerrechtsblog podcast on Transitional Justice.

Transitional Justice (TJ) refers to legal and political measures aimed at coming to terms with a violent past and contributing to a new, more just order. Key instruments include the prosecution of human rights violations, Truth and Reconciliation Commissions, reparations, political reforms, and memorial initiatives. In the introductory section, host Isabel Lischewski examines the work of truth and reconciliation commissions in detail.

Numerous social actors with differing interests are involved in TJ processes, which often leads to tensions. In view of current conflicts, the question also arises as to what successes and limitations previous TJ processes have had and what lessons can be learned from them. Against this backdrop, Jasmin Wachau, together with her interview partners Hannah Franzki and Mariam Salehi, puts transitional justice to the test. The theoretical discussion is complemented by concrete practical examples which make the topic clear and tangible.
